Swinging From Roundabouts, The Difficulties of Writing with Bipolarposted by Lisa Knight
I can offer no excuse for my recent sabbatical from writing my online serial, Luna’s Way, than admitting that it was a consequence of my bipolar disorder. The mental health issue which has affected me for twenty years. I have not been unwell, but, “Stressed”. That overused word, which encapsulates a multitude of emotions from mildly anxious to suicidal.
In my case (sic), the causes of my stress were linked to my disorder.
Unfortunately, I have reached the stage of my life when the effects of a self-destructive lifestyle, induced by imbalances in my moods, are reflected in my physical form. Embarrassingly, health anxiety is the latest addition to the list of disorders, with which a psychiatrist would probably diagnose me as experiencing, if I were to be more open with him.
My way forward is to write my way through despair. Life is inherently difficult for us all. However, those affected by mental health issues have an extra cross to bear. I hope that you will bear with me and read, Luna’s Way.
